Following on from TRANS-FAIRE’s paper at the Natureparif-IFORE symposium on June 4,5,6 and 7, 2014, we took part in the November 4 symposium devoted to the study of the place and roles of nature in the city of tomorrow, addressing the ecological, human and social dimensions of this issue.

We particularly appreciated the way researchers such as philosopher Chris Younes put the issues into perspective (the historical and social approach to the city/nature relationship), Nathalie Cecutti-Etahiri, head of the foresight mission at the Commissariat Général au Développement Durable (weak signals, possible scenarios) and Nathalie Blanc, deputy director of the interdisciplinary “Ville et environnement” research program (the systemic approach as the key to tackling the city/nature relationship).

TRANS-FAIRE is involved in numerous projects to integrate biodiversity into the city, including the design of the Trame Verte et Bleue (green and blue network) for the OIN des Ardoines area (EPA ORSA), and for the towns of Nanterre, Arnouville and Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. We are also working with Bouygues Immobilier on a BiodiverCity Label pilot project for the conversion of an industrial site in Créteil, and are systematically developing a biodiversity approach in our competitions and projects, particularly in the case of H&E, HQE or BREEAM certifications. Beyond the necessary heritage approach, we use biodiversity to support user comfort in the creation of landscapes or to combat urban heat island phenomena, for example.
